Course Content

Understanding What Asbestos Is and Its History
This module explains what asbestos is, how it was used historically, and why it became such a common material in construction and industry. Learners will understand the different types of asbestos, where it was commonly used, and why buildings constructed before 2000 may still contain asbestos-containing materials.

Understanding the Health Risks Associated with Asbestos
This module covers the serious health risks linked to asbestos exposure. Learners will explore how asbestos fibres affect the body and gain an understanding of asbestos-related diseases including asbestosis, mesothelioma, lung cancer, and pleural plaques, along with the importance of early awareness and prevention.

Recognising Potential Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s)
This module focuses on identifying where asbestos may be found in domestic, commercial, and industrial environments. Learners will learn to recognise common asbestos-containing materials, understand high-risk locations within buildings, and recognise activities that may disturb asbestos and release harmful fibres.

The Law Around Asbestos
This module provides an overview of UK asbestos legislation and the responsibilities of employers and employees under the law. Learners will gain an understanding of key regulations, legal duties, safe working practices, and the consequences of failing to comply with asbestos safety requirements.
